IRB Required Training

Human Subject Research Training through the CITI program is required by all research personnel listed on a research study.

The Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) at West Virginia University have approved the use of the CITI training program for all individuals involved in human subject research. There are three training options to choose from, one for biomedical research investigators one for social & behavioral research investigators and one for IRB members.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) courses are NOT sufficient for research on an IRB protocol. RCR courses are only sufficient for particular funding sources that require it.

If you have taken the training at a previous institution and now you are doing research at West Virginia University, you will need to affiliate with WVU via CITI in order for us to have record of your training.

All Institutional Review Board members must complete both the IRB Members CITI course. All IRB members must also complete the DON-Supported Extramural Performers CITI course (offered by the Department of The Navy) by following the instructions here: CITI - DoN Extramural Directions .
